2013 German National Cyclocross Championships

Over this past weekend the German CX Nationals took place and I was lucky to be able to make it out there on Sunday to see the male and female Elite races. Racing was intense to say the least and the weather made for a ground neither fish nor fowl - the extreme muddy conditions from Saturday changed over night as temperatures dropped to around freezing point. Very tough to ride, almost impossible in some segments.

Introduction of the "Cro-Mo" steel Cyclocross frame

Another Saturday, another trip to Basel with Dirk. Basel has an unproportional number of cool bike shops I think and a pretty vibrant community of cyclists, whether it is road, cyclocross or fixedgear. This time ChezVelo threw a little party to celebrate the arrival of their new steel Cyclocross frame.

Bikeporn Vol.1 - Dirk's custom Neueck steel frame

Maybe you saw Josh‘s amazing photos of the „Schwarzwald Giro“ ride in June, these perfectly captured the atmosphere of the event. But Josh was on fire on that day and even during lunchbreak he couldn‘t sit still: He took Dirk‘s Neueck aside while everybody else was catching their breath and relaxing in the sun. The photos of the bike turned out great and I have wanted to publish them ever since.

Disposable camera shots from my summer trip to Italy and Switzerland

You might have read the write-up about my summer trip to the swiss and italian Alps and maybe you even followed my riding on Strava. I spent the second half of August between Como (IT), Pontresina (SUI) and Bormio (IT) and climbed some of the most famous mountain passes as well as some fairly unknow hills on some of the smallest roads you could imagine.

Event Recap: "Ride of the Falling Leaves" in Basel/Switzerland

My friend Dirk (@DirkHenrikM) and myself went down to Basel this past Saturday to take part in the "Ride of the Falling Leaves", a group ride hosted by Basel's finest bike shop "Obst&Gemüse" in collaboration with Rapha. The name was derived from the Giro di Lombardia (nowadays Il Lombardia) also know as the "Giro of the Falling Leaves", because of its late appearance in the UCI calendar.

The good folks at Obst & Gemüse in Basel, Switzerland will treat us with an action-packed weekend in October. I am really excited about it and will try to make it down to Basel at least for the ride and afterparty on Saturday. So head over to their page for full details! I hope to see you there!

The Art of Wheelbuilding - a visit at the workshop of Anders Skantz

We all know wheels are a big issue for cyclists - the right choice of wheels is crucial for the handling of the bike and it can save you a lot of weight. There are so many different options and prices range from dirt cheap to ridiculously expensive, but what do you really need?

CremaCycles presents: The Crosstober Fest 2012

Last October the first edition of the "Crosstober Fest" took place and it must have been amazing. The photos I got to see were great and what my buddy Dirk told me was nothing but praises. So I am super stoked to go this year - and since I am new to the cross-thing the Crossclinic will just be perfect for me. I am really looking forward to this and am already keeping my fingers crossed that the weather will be nice. Check out the details at the Crosstober page!

An alpine cycling adventure

It is kind of weird to spend your summer vacation mostly on your own with the sole purpose to ride your bike, isn‘t it? After a weekend together with my girlfriend on Italy's Lake Como, she had to go home again to continue a clinical-internship as part of her medschool-program and I started my solo cycling madness.

Support the initiative for a velodrome in Basel, Switzerland!

Just recently I found out about this initiative to build a multi-purpose gym with an included velodrome in greater Basel, Switzerland. Since 2003 swiss bike-lovers including bikeshop-owner Fredy Zaugg have been campaigning for a velodrome, but it looks like they need an extra bit of support now!
