Keeping Cross weird! A weekend full of muddy madness in Freiburg and Basel!

Sunday the first run of our GGCX Cyclocross Series in Freiburg took place and it was a blast! More people than expected, 16 in fact, showed up to race and we all did our best to surrive the 50 minutes of suffering. I fell twice during the first lap and was kinda bummed out after that, but it was still great fun! But this was only the beginning of the DIY cross-race season here in the very southwest of Germany...

GGCX Grenzgänger Cyclocross Series 13/14

This winter it is happening, the introduction of a full-on DIY Cyclocross race series in and around Freiburg. After we had a good time at the first race of this kind last year and since I will be stuck in Freiburg for most of the Winter, because I need to study to finish University, I decided to bring some more "races" to Freiburg.

2013 German National Cyclocross Championships

Over this past weekend the German CX Nationals took place and I was lucky to be able to make it out there on Sunday to see the male and female Elite races. Racing was intense to say the least and the weather made for a ground neither fish nor fowl - the extreme muddy conditions from Saturday changed over night as temperatures dropped to around freezing point. Very tough to ride, almost impossible in some segments.

Introduction of the "Cro-Mo" steel Cyclocross frame

Another Saturday, another trip to Basel with Dirk. Basel has an unproportional number of cool bike shops I think and a pretty vibrant community of cyclists, whether it is road, cyclocross or fixedgear. This time ChezVelo threw a little party to celebrate the arrival of their new steel Cyclocross frame.

Bikeporn Vol.1 - Dirk's custom Neueck steel frame

Maybe you saw Josh‘s amazing photos of the „Schwarzwald Giro“ ride in June, these perfectly captured the atmosphere of the event. But Josh was on fire on that day and even during lunchbreak he couldn‘t sit still: He took Dirk‘s Neueck aside while everybody else was catching their breath and relaxing in the sun. The photos of the bike turned out great and I have wanted to publish them ever since.

Disposable camera shots from my summer trip to Italy and Switzerland

You might have read the write-up about my summer trip to the swiss and italian Alps and maybe you even followed my riding on Strava. I spent the second half of August between Como (IT), Pontresina (SUI) and Bormio (IT) and climbed some of the most famous mountain passes as well as some fairly unknow hills on some of the smallest roads you could imagine.

Event Recap: "Ride of the Falling Leaves" in Basel/Switzerland

My friend Dirk (@DirkHenrikM) and myself went down to Basel this past Saturday to take part in the "Ride of the Falling Leaves", a group ride hosted by Basel's finest bike shop "Obst&Gemüse" in collaboration with Rapha. The name was derived from the Giro di Lombardia (nowadays Il Lombardia) also know as the "Giro of the Falling Leaves", because of its late appearance in the UCI calendar.

The Art of Wheelbuilding - a visit at the workshop of Anders Skantz
